R.E. NOTES August 21, 2013

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes,

but in having new eyes.    Marcel Proust

Dear Old Ship,

 news 1news2news3

It’s starting to look like start-up time again… Nursery toys have been washed… The sandbox has been weeded… Raised beds are firmed up… Art installations are completed… and e-mails are buzzing back and forth…

So what’s new at Old Ship R.E. this fall? Well, a lot actually…

–          Our website is completely re-vamped and significantly more current and interactive. Check it out at http://oldshipchurch.org/   We have photos and drop-downs and links, and it’s just very cool.

–          We’re offering Our Whole Lives (OWL) to our 8th and 9th graders (along with those from 2nd Parish)…

Now, with a four-decade tradition of honest, comprehensive, health-promoting talk about sexuality—and eleven years of offering specialized curricula for all ages called Our Whole Lives (OWL)—Unitarian Universalist congregations are recognized as leaders in sexuality education.” http://www.uuworld.org/ideas/articles/188371.shtml

We have more cool natural elements in our playground…

–          We have fabulous, vibrant, active R.E. committees… the Children’s Religious Education Committee:

Trish McAleer Baynes–Chair, Diane Jordan, Alicia Harkness, Sarah Hurley, Anne Kerrebrock, Christine Lotano, John McKendry, Kate Whooley and Carlos Zalduondo… and the Youth Committee: Maureen Butler-Chair, Judi Flaherty and Deb Squires-Lee…

–          Our first day of R.E. will be a scavenger hunt of the Parish house… Ground floor to attic… Teams of teachers, children and Youth… Getting to know each other, the building, and where to find stuff, all in one fun, pseudo-competitive swoop…

–          AND There will be a calendar on the R.E bulletin board,

so folks can always see what’s coming up next…

Old favorites and fun surprises…

Beverly Tricco,  Director of Religious Education
